Celebrate Mothers Day Weekend at the Live Art Walk

This Mother’s Day weekend, step into something far more memorable than your typical brunch reservation. On Saturday, May 9 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Farmington Live Art Walk returns to Main Street, offering a one-of-a-kind, open-air experience designed to bring generations together through creativity, movement, and community.

Set along a one-mile stretch of Main Street from Route 4 to Meadow Road, the Live Art Walk transforms one of Farmington’s most scenic historic corridors into a fully walkable outdoor gallery. More than 40 artists will be creating work live throughout the afternoon, spanning mediums from fine art painting and illustration to graffiti, sculpture, wool felting, and more.

“This is the kind of event where you’ll see a grandmother, a mother, and a child all engaged in the same moment, watching something being created, asking questions, or just taking it all in together,” said Chelsea O’Donnell, event organizer. “It’s active, it’s creative, and it gives families a way to spend time together that feels different and more meaningful than the usual Mother’s Day plans.”

Designed to be both accessible and easy to navigate, the event features a continuous shuttle running along Main Street throughout the day. Visitors can hop on and off at various points along the route, making it simple for those with limited mobility, or anyone who just wants a ride, to experience the full walk without missing a thing.

In addition to the artists, the day offers something for every age and pace:

The setting itself is part of the experience. Artists will be stationed along sidewalks and front lawns of historic homes in Farmington’s Cultural District, creating a rare opportunity to explore the neighborhood while engaging directly with the creative process.

Unlike a traditional gallery or festival, the Live Art Walk is intentionally unstructured. Visitors can move at their own pace, stopping, lingering, or simply wandering, making it especially well-suited for families navigating different ages and interests. Presented by the Farmington Cultural District and sponsored by the Farmington Community Chest, the event continues to grow as a signature community gathering that blends art, place, and connection.

The event is free and open to all. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to support the Farmington Food Pantry.
