Live Art Walk Receives Grant from Farmington Community Chest
When the Live Art Walk launched in May 2025, it was an experiment rooted in the simple idea of turning people’s front yards into temporary art galleries
The response was clear almost immediately. Farmington showed up.
We’re thrilled to share that the Live Art Walk has received a $5,000 community grant from the Farmington Community Chest, supporting the continued growth of the event and helping turn a successful inaugural celebration into an annual Farmington tradition.
A Community Event That Came to Life
Last spring, the Live Art Walk transformed Main Street into a one-mile open-air gallery, pairing dozens of artists with local residents and cultural institutions. Front yards and sidewalks became creative spaces where visitors could watch art unfold in real time, meet the artists behind the work, and connect with neighbors along the way.
The event attracted visitors from across Connecticut, generated statewide media coverage, and delivered a meaningful boost to local restaurants and shops, all while celebrating Farmington’s newly designated Cultural District.
Why This Support Matters
The Farmington Community Chest grant will help expand the Live Art Walk’s reach and impact for its second year, taking place on May 9, 2026. The funding will support essential event equipment, safety measures, and, most importantly, publicity and promotion, allowing more artists, residents, and visitors to take part.
“This grant is a huge vote of confidence, not just in the Live Art Walk, but in the power of in-person, community-driven experiences,” said Chelsea O’Donnell, Live Art Walk Chairperson and Event Organizer. “The Farmington Community Chest understands that arts and culture aren’t extras; they’re essential to building connection, pride, and a thriving town.”
Chris Andrews, President of the Farmington Community Chest, echoed that sentiment. “The Farmington Community Chest is proud to support the Live Art Walk because it reflects exactly what community investment should do, bring people together, strengthen local identity, and create meaningful experiences that benefit residents, artists, and businesses alike.”
Looking Ahead to May 2026
With expanded funding, the 2026 Live Art Walk will feature 50 artists along the one-mile route, with Miss Porter’s School, First Church of Christ Congregational, the Farmington Historical Society, and Barney Library joining residents in hosting creators. The event is expected to generate significant foot traffic for local businesses while continuing to highlight Farmington’s unique character and creative energy.
According to Rose Ponte, Head of Economic Development for the Town of Farmington, events like the Live Art Walk play an important role in the local economy. “The Live Art Walk is exactly the kind of event that strengthens our local economy while enhancing the experience of living and working in Farmington. It draws visitors into our town center, supports small businesses, and highlights the unique character that makes Farmington a destination.”
